Nonprofit multifamily housing developers—to my delight—really care about their tenants.
Before LMSA, I worked mostly on high-rise and mid-rise commercial and residential buildings. We worked with good clients. But they were focusing on the bottom line. Here, our nonprofit clients are invested in their properties for the whole life of the project. They’re going to manage them, not just own them.
So the budgets may not be as big, and there are stricter guidelines about use and security, but there are fascinating opportunities for design. I try to push the design beyond the limitations of the budget and the schedule.
